May 12, 2018 - Breakwater Run to School of Fish

The sculpture of salmon on the Edmonds marina breakwater was originally commissioned as "Breakwater Run" in 1982.  After a refurbishing it was rededicated in 1994 as "School of Fish" as a memorial to the former Mayor Gordon Maxwell.  The ferry M/V Walla Walla is in the background loading cars before heading west towards the sunset.  In the background of the background, Mount Baker can be seen.

November 29, 2014 - Wind Chill

Two photographers armed with a matching pair of 600mm lenses were hoping to catch a shot of a Snowy Owl that made an appearance at the Edmonds Marina earlier in the week.  The pair were armed with matching 600mm zoom lenses.  With the temperature about 30 degrees and a 20 mph wind, the exposed pier was a bracing place to be waiting for a rare (for these parts) bird.

The weather had knocked out power to the Edmonds Ferry Terminal suspending operations for a couple of hours.  The recent high tides and wind had pummeled a nearby seawall and the access to the beach was clogged with debris.  Far to the north, a peaceful, Mount Baker seemed to be enjoying the sun.

May 14, 2014 - A Ferry Commute

Three iconic images of Seattle - a ferry, Mount Rainier and the Space Needle, 17 miles away - as seen from the ferry terminal at Kingston. 

The M/V Puyallup approaches the Kingston ferry terminal as one of MSC Cargo Italy's 124 vessels heads north on its way out of Puget Sound.

The M/V Spokane heads to Kingston with Mount Baker in the background.  At 10,781 feet Mount Baker is the third highest mountain in Washington behind Mount Rainier 14,411 and Mount Adams 12,277. 

July 25, 2013 - All Clear!

Mount Baker proved to be the perfect opportunity to check to see how the camera's sensor cleaning fared. At 10,781 feet the third highest and second most glaciated peak in Washington is 80 miles away and typically not seen from this viewpoint on the north side of Seattle's Queen Anne Hill.  The skies, air and were clear enough today, though!  And more importantly, the sensor appears to be clear!

The ski resort on Mount Baker once recorded a world record snowfall of 1,140 inches of snow in one season!

May 12, 2012 - Peak Season

The Mukilteo ferry dock is a busy place as 'peak season' began May 1st.  A sunny holiday weekend, like Mother's Day, typically means waiting in line for a boat, or two...or sometimes three!  But "keep clam" as the crossing to Whidbey Island is brief and a ferry departs every half an hour.  So if you miss a boat, there's probably time to get something from Ivar's!

 

Meanwhile, out in Puget Sound, things are a little less crowded.  Mount Baker can be seen in the background.

February 21, 2010 - A Day at the Beach

A sunny February sunday brings families out to enjoy some beach time at Mukilteo State Park as the ferry Kittitas heads to Whidbey Island.
