March 19, 2011 - Lake Langlois' Last Winter Morning

At Lake Langlois, near Carnation, Washington, canoes sit idle at the boathouse on the last morning of this winter.  The canoes and the lake won't be still for long, however.  Lake Langlois is an integral part of Camp River Ranch, a Girl Scout camp operated by Girl Scouts of Western Washington.   Each year thousands of girls learn canoeing, go swimming, enjoy campfire songs and appreciate the beauty of the lake.

Lake Langlois covers nearly 100 acres and the clear, cool waters are nearly 100 feet deep.  In addition to the activities of the Girl Scouts the lake has a strong fishery.  Each year the lake is stocked with several thousand legal rainbow trout and kokanee.  No gasoline engines are permitted and public access is limited to a boat launch.

  1. I was a camper at camp River Ranch for many years. I googled Lake Langlois trying to find the song unique to Camp River Ranch by that name when I stumbled upon your blog. I, also loving photography, looked at it more and I love it! You have a good eye and a lot of talent. Plus you are taking pictures in Washington so how can you go wrong? Thank you for posting these beautiful pictures of one of my favorite places in the world.

  2. Anonymous: Thank you so much for the kind words! If you are on Facebook, Camp River Ranch has a fan page, as does Girl Scouts of Western Washington. I am sure there are other pictures from Camp River Ranch there. Also, JanVineyPhotography.com has some wonderful pictures of Camp River Ranch. As you know firsthand, Camp River Ranch is a place of incredible beauty.

If you didn't find the answer, this might be it:
    LAKE LANGLOIS
Oh have you seen Lake Langlois,
When the mist begins to rise?
Or have you seen the mountain shadows Deepen in the skies?
You can sing around a campfire,
    Making friends so true,
And the spirit of Camp River Ranch,
    Will belong to you.
You can hear the laughter ringing,
And a little thread of song.
You can follow paths where footsteps swing So merrily along.
You can climb the hill to the ridge, See the sunset’s blazing hue,
And the spirit of Camp River Ranch, Will belong to you.
