September 6, 2016 - Another Ferry Photo

The ferries Kaleetan and Wenatchee leaves Seattle's Elliott Bay headed for Bremerton and Bainbridge Island respectively.  Beyond Alki Point point the ferry Tillikum sits at the ferry terminal on Vashon Island.

A few minutes earlier, they had passed by the cranes and dry docks of Harbor Island.

July 9, 2014 - Mills Canyon Fire

The Mills Canyon fire burns the hills just south of the Entiat river, the north border of the 22,000 acre wildfire.  This was taken from Daroga State Park two miles north.

August 22, 2013 - A Sunset on Elliott Bay Means...

A sunset on Elliott Bay means...

...the ninth trip for the M/V Wenatchee from Bainbridge Island this day.

...one more recreational vessel tying up at the Bell Harbor Marina.

...it's nearly bed time for a heron and gull.

...a pleasant sendoff for a container ship heading for far off ports.

February 16, 2010 - Are You Ram Tough?

Bighorn Sheep Crossing Next 5 Miles.

This corridor of US 97A North of Wenatchee, has one of the highest mule deer and big horn sheep mortality rates in Washington. During a severe winter as many as 160 deer are reported killed along the highway between Wenatchee and Chelan. In the past year, 13 Bighorn sheep have been killed. In December 2009, the Washington State DOT completed installing a special all-steel, 8-ft tall wildlife fence design along this high wildlife kill section of the Columbia River. It is anticipated that a 50% reduction in the total vehicle-wildlife collisions for the entire corridor can be achieved.

Update: The final segment of the wildlife fence was completed in September of 2011.  Initial counts indicates that the fence has resulted in an 80% reduction in total vehicle-wildlife collisions.
