May 11, 2019 - Late Spring Bluff

After a mid-80s day, nearly 25 degrees above average, a sunset over Puget Sound from the bluff above Richmond Beach Saltwater Park is a great way to close out a summer-like day.

August 6, 2014 - Moon Struck

The winds brought the smoke, presumably from the nearby Dalton fire, part of the Chiwaukum Creek wildfire, to Lake Chelan.  The morning dawned with a vision that brought Deep Purple to mind: there was smoke on the water.  By late afternoon much of the smoke in the valley had cleared up but there was still enough higher up to turn the moon an orange-red.  It made for a particularly interesting orange moonset as it disappeared over the hills.

Last night's waxing gibbous moon appears to outshine a stealthy Space Needle.

April 21, 2013 - Freedom to be Peculiar

Adorned with the unofficial neighborhood motto "De Libertas Quirkas", Freedom to be Peculiar, if one is to believe the sign, the Fremont Rocket points skyward towards a waxing gibbous moon.  The rocket, actually a tail boom for a C-119 Flying Boxcar, was destined for the scrap heap from its home at a surplus store in Belltown when it was rescued by the Fremont Business Assocation in 1991.  According to the sign out front it actually took a lot of work to "get it up".  It finally touched down in its current location in June of 1994 in time for the annual neighborhood solstice parade.

August 28, 2012 - Fly Me To The Moon

At dusk in Seattle's Gas Works Park a kite makes a run at a waxing gibbous moon.  On Friday, August 31st, the last blue moon until July of 2015 makes its appearance.  By some definitions, a blue moon is the second full moon in a month.
